In mid-2019, the vision for EnMiPatioPR was born. A young Puerto Rican with a profound love for exploring the world began to notice a striking disconnection: Puerto Rico’s vibrant, beautiful culture was underrepresented and lacked proper visibility in the global digital space.

The Origin: A Purpose-Driven Journey

In mid-2019, the vision for EnMiPatioPR was born. A young Puerto Rican with a profound love for exploring the world began to notice a striking disconnection: Puerto Rico’s vibrant, beautiful culture was underrepresented and lacked proper visibility in the global digital space. Traveling to various countries only reinforced this realization—the island’s traditions, art, music, and history, though rich and powerful, were missing from global conversations. This gap sparked a sense of responsibility and urgency to act.

The Spark:
The turning point came after witnessing how other cultures thrived on digital platforms, showcasing their stories and traditions to the world. Meanwhile, Puerto Rico, with its extraordinary blend of Taíno, African, and Spanish/European influences, remained undervalued and often misunderstood on a global scale. The founder realized the need for a platform that would preserve, document, and amplify Puerto Rican culture, ensuring it would not only survive but flourish for future generations.
The Vision:
The founder of EnMiPatioPR envisioned a digital space that would go far beyond promoting tourism or celebrating Puerto Rico’s musical exports. The vision was bold and clear: To preserve Puerto Rican heritage digitally, ensuring accessibility for residents, academics, students, tourists, and the diaspora. To bridge Puerto Rico and the world, using advanced technology to foster global appreciation for its culture. To inspire pride and ownership, empowering local communities and Puerto Ricans abroad to connect, share, and engage with their cultural roots. This platform would serve as both a living archive and a global stage, celebrating Puerto Rico’s art, music, history, and traditions while educating and inspiring people worldwide.
The Name:
The name EnMiPatioPR encapsulates the platform’s mission beautifully. “En Mi Patio” translates to “In my homeland” in Spanish, evoking a sense of belonging and connection. The letters “PR” not only refer to Puerto Rico but also symbolize pride and identity. Together, the name represents the founders’ commitment to providing a platform for Puerto Ricans, both on the island and in the diaspora, to celebrate their culture, engage with their heritage, and share their stories with the world.
The Logo: The San Pedrito
The logo of EnMiPatioPR features the San Pedrito (Todus mexicanus), a small, vibrant bird endemic to Puerto Rico. Recognized as the island’s national bird, the San Pedrito holds deep cultural symbolism: It represents the beauty, resilience, and uniqueness of Puerto Rico’s natural environment.
